Our new home away from home.

Post by Subaman » Mon Apr 28, 2008 5:12 pm

My new home away from home, got the trailer custom made and bought the tent top from eBay. Trailer has shackle springs, 2 inch chassis frame, longer draw bar, disc brakes, Subaru stud pattern, LED lights and has had the sides filled in near the guards to carry battery, jerry cans gas bottle etc, WRX 15x6 alloys with Cooper AT tyres and the trailer is rated to carry 1 tonne.

In typical BYB form, with in 2 hours of the trailer arriving home we were giving it a few mods with the big hammer, grinder and welder etc....... priceless :)

Stone deflector ?
Kitchen Sink ?
Love the colour choice on the canvas. Shouldn't show up too much of that red dirt :)

Yeah nothing like a bit of red dirt to show off on ya tent, kinda gives you a few extra bragging rights around the camp site :)

looking real good there Grant and Kim, should be snug as a bug in your new home, and the WRX rims set it off nice.
Hope all go's well on your trip.

Have no probs at all and we did some real nasty goat tracks through the back of Bourke on the way home last time we were over.
The only thing you may want to do is get a better foam matress , if it is anything like the one in ours it isnt dense enough and I found I was laying on the wood base .

I thought that might be the case with the mattress in mine as well as i have only shop tested it and it wasnt great but ok. Looks like its off to find a better one.

Another question for you Mike, what was it like with keeping dust out?

Dave , in the camper it'self it was really good , it did however get quite a lot of dust in the trailor part underneath , nothing a bit of silicone and some foam dam won;t fix though.

This sort of goes for any trailer that you are towing , Something to stop the rocks from deflecting of the front of the trailer and hitting the rear screen on the car , we had one that bounced of the trailer and hit the rear screen so hard I couldnt believe it didnt shatter the glass .

Already have that one on the list but we only recently had the conversation about the Subys back window having enough curve in it to bounce off. With your comment it is further up the must have list now.
