Just a thought Gentleman, there is a good track from the midlands to the East Coast called the Swanston Track, comes out around Little Swanport.
Its supposed to be challenging.

More of an afternoon run than anything. On a transit perhaps.

I am up for one trip between Xmas and NY and one in January, South for the first one if we can.
1989 Subaru WonderBrumby II
EJ22 Dual range AWD lifted, widened and much happier now thanks very much.

1991 L Series wagon, white and perfectly normal apart from the ticking, no I think that is normal.

Jet boat..webbered EA81 with a hybrid tin dish welded and glued to it.

So we will pencil in the South for Xmas to New Years.

Dates? Whats say we congregate down south somewhere and set off on the 26th?

Thru to how ever long it takes us :).

Forgive my ignorance as I don't really know the area, but on the map there seem to lots of tracks behind Mt Wellington, which I assume are the fire trails with Jefferys Track in there somewhere.

Maybe if we struck out south from Glenorchy on some of the closer to Mt Wellington tracks, work our way to Hounville, have a play, and come back north on some of the other tracks behind Wellington, and try to end up in New Norfolk.
If we are on a roll, continue on to Florentine Vally and the Sawback Track.

This gives us a bituman exit at Hounville, and again at New Norfolk, should something break in a big way, or for any other unforseen circumstance.

How's it sounding so far?

I'm with you all the way Frebsub, It will be great to have you on board.
I take it your leave was approved?

And the rest of you lads, Work out what the go is for Stage 1.
I will be in Noosa till next w/end, working hard ;) (Honest!)
If we are REALLY on a roll, there looks to be some tracks leading north from the sawback track to the lyell highway.

Think we should wait for frebsub for stage 2, and strike out west. What say you?

And maybe a stage 1.5 BBQ w/end or something early jan in the east.
We could convoy in on the swanston track and go from there.

Keep the ideas coming.

Nice ride Sam, the flares look the goods too.
Did you get that webber sorted out?

Will we be ready gentlemen? Whats the plan? Rock up on John's doorstep at 5am and go from there? ;)

Not sure what the Phatman is up to, will find out when I get back.
Think Mattl200 has accounted for xmas to NY, and I hope to joint him waterskiing at Lake Barrington some stage early Jan. Should be able to rope him into coming down west though.

Drove the wagon to Launceston airport last w/end, massive vibration at 110+ that I would like to sort out before we set out, So wheel alignment and balance as soon as I get back, and maybe check the tailshaft balance also .
The pedal box is also flexing consiberably under the strain of a heavy duty duty EJ clutch, might whip up a reinforced pedal box as well. And pack several spare clutch cables!

Pumped!

Sounds good John.

Looks like an early morning for us northeners then. Can we definatly get a key on boxing day?
I wouldn't mind climbing Mt Field West at some point, time permitting. (~6 1/2 hours, 'Hard' )

Shack would be awesome as well, keep us posted.

Turned out my tailshaft was a little out, she drives much better now.

yep, can pick up the key between 10 and 3 on boxing day, and after 10 on the 27th. You will also need a parks pass per car to camp at Mt Field, or you can just leave it over the road out side the park and come in with someone else if you don't have one. Camping is 8 bucks a night.

The sawback track itself is not inside the National park.

I wont be there till late on boxing day. Am up in devonport for christmas and coming home about mid afternoon boxing day, so wont be back in hobart till late afternoon, then have to throw all the gear in the L and cruise up to Mt Field. Will get there eventually :p

Fatz and I have lost out co-pilots to 'work commitments', so we will be flying our respective vehicles solo.

We are leaving burnie pretty early (5am), Weather permitting would like start Mt Field early. Or something, plenty of time for last minute adjustments etc

See you all tomorrow, Hope you had a Merry Christmas!
