West Coasting.

Post by MY_STI » Wed May 23, 2007 10:43 pm

Its about time we had another trip guys,

Henty dunes/Ocean beach seems like the go.
Say around mid july? for a weekend or so.

How about we meet in Strahan for some fish n chips and drive up ocean beach to the dunes?

There is a nice grassy spot to camp, if its not flooded. Or there is a hut we can use. If thats flooded as well we can camp on the dunes, bound to be a few suitable places.

Bring a rain coat. You WILL need it. This is the west coast in tassie's finest weather.

I can have friday to monday quite easily on a selected w/end.

All hands on deck this time.

Discuss. Deliberate. Comprimise. Attend. :)

Awwww yeah!!
Bout bloody time to have another go at things..
I'm all ears. Though i assume as most others, I'm only avail fri arvos till sun arvos. But that should be plenty of time..
If we arnt going anywhere too hardcore, i have met a couple of fellow Subaru owners(stockos) who are keen to come out for a bash.
Hope to have a few people turn up, should be good.

Welcome back Ben, its been a while.

Good to hear Matt, I imagine you wont have a lot of free time after this. You have a pm as well.

Stock subies (and more importantly their owners) are most welcome, still much fun to be had in stock trim. Might even be able to increase the population of lifted subes!

Take friday off johnny, you know you want to. How long a drive would it be from hobart to strahan in the monsta truck? 2 hrs?

It would be a little quicker to take the highway north from strahan and take a track in if getting there before dark (which is too early atm) is an issue.

Have a mate with a hilux who is keen to come as well, if thats cool.

Late june is a little tight for me, though if thats the concensus I will still be there.

July would be better for me, but I have a permission slip all filled out.

Bring on the Stocko's, at least they won't break anything!

Hobart to strahan is a dream compared to Swansea to Strahan
(especially the way Adam goes).

Bring snatch straps if someone is bringing a hilux.

The track Sir Will speaks of is a beauty, it ends at the southern shore of the Henty and I believe you can get onto Ocean Beach from it.

Nearly all sand, there is a little bit of peaty mud (remember that little detour off jeffery's?) most of it is avoidable though.

I would say bring whichever set is wider and bags out best with a lower pressure.

High chance of some water holes on the way in at this time of year, might be an issue for the stocks, we will just send Johnny through first!

Thats the track Matt, normally not a problem getting onto ocean beach, but dunes shift etc, so we will see.

What does the group say about July, perhaps the 7th and 8th??
Need to organise work schedule.

I heard an excellent trick the other day when I was telling a Mate about this trip.... take a roll of chain link fencing (or two even better) to lay under bogged wheels. Sand drops through it and it rolls up and away. Great traction.
I have some to bring- for that poor hilux.

225's ftw!

7/8th it is then, mark it on the calender in red!

Sorry to hear you can't make it Sam, its no good when work get in the way of lesuire! Will definatly key something up for later on in the year. Is Josh coming? He is welcome of course.

I only have three L driveshafts, none in good condition but they would get one out of a pinch. Bringing plenty of other spares as well.
Good thing here is that most of them can be left at camp, and fetched when (not if) required.

I'm looking at going down on the friday morning, depending on what my co-pilot is up to.

Do you want to meet in Strahan or at the track entrance (A little north of Strahan)?
Can't remember what mobile reception is like down there.
