Ea82t

Post by Dubcrazy » Sat Sep 13, 2008 7:35 am

right where do i start, i have had my EA82T totaly rebuilt, the rods and crank polished, new pistons and the heads totaly rebuilt with new valves. now the fun.
It runs fine but its gutless, turbo boost's up but its got no go. There is a vibration when u boot it, very slight but wasn't there before. I am at a total loss to whats casueing the problem.
It makes no knocking sounds but it has now got a bizzare noise that i can only discribe as a high pitched chirping that comes on when the revs rise.

i know this gives u nothing to work with but any ideas as its driving me insane

steff.......

Have you checked the hoses? Sounds like it's loosing the air being forced into the throttle body. Make sure all the clamps are sealed nice and tight.

Not sure if the turbos on those are water cooled or oil cooled.... check to make sure that whatever cools it is getting to the turbo.

Also, another thing to check is that the manifold bolts are nice and firmly done up. Could also be loosing air there too. If either side has a significant leak, it could also be causing issues.

Other than that.... check all the spark leads and dizzy. I had an N12 turbo pulsar that gave me hell a number of times and all these things caused hard to solve issues that caused bizzare problems.

EDIT: One thing that through me for six when I had the Pulsar was spark plugs. No. 4 failed ONLY at higher revs... new spark plugs too.

Sounds like the turbo itself could be stuffed. Might have big shaft play and the high pitched sound you can hear is the blades hitting the housing.

EA82t's are fairly gutless at the best of times but something's definitely wrong there, hope u sort it out soon.

would have thought that it would be doing that before the rebuild... but stranger things have happened.

Then again... is it the same turbo as before the rebuild?

My call is the turbo mount gaskets are rooted. Are they new? Is the mounting plate warped?

Did you do the rebuild or was it paid? Take it back for warranty if you paid for it. If you did the rebuild, did you do it right? Vibrations are caused by lack of balance, you may have missed something when you put it back together...

Back to basics, cams timed ok?, dizzy correctly located as per specs?,buzzing could be turbo/turbo leak/cams.
Enjoy.

same turbo, not sure if its a new mounting gasket, i didnt do the rebuild a shop did and they have had it back a few times to try and work out whats going on. Just about everything has been replaced at some point, injectors, oxy senser, all fuel, water, vacuum hoses, plugs, lead etc etc etc

the nosie does seem to be coming from the turbo area .Before the rebuild it went very well, no issues (bar the head gasket was leaking), turbo wasnt playing up, all in all it was very good. The dyno we did just before the pull down gave 112Bhp at the wheels not re done it yet as its been such an arse but its no where nnear what it was to drive and it really should be better.

Its at the point i am thinking of riping it all out and puting anther engine in but i am into this engine with so much $$$$$ i really want to get this sorted.
