ea81 to ea82 conversion

Let me say off the bat as a mechanic I make a pretty good printer please try and allow for this when replying. I have just replaced my brumby engine/ gearbox with an 88 ea82 lump and a 5 speed box. Happy with that bit, lot of work but my only car now goes ok.
probs. Second gear is a bit notchy (sychros f****d I think) can I adjust this.
there seems to oil in the air box
the auto choke has had it can I make this manual?
shes using quite a bit of petrol -any thaughts.
there are about a million pipes around the carbi so I miss the simplicity of the old ea81 dont suppose I could just bolt on the old carbi setup could i. I am currantly running a straight pipe with wath looks like a small muffeller (about 4inches wide 2 thirds back) dont know much about exhausts. car seems to make a bit of noise back fires in decelaration heaps
any help advise greatly appreciated
