Factory Temperature Guage - Where is the normal range?

Post by buggo » Sun Feb 01, 2009 6:44 pm

Hi everyone.

I have recently bought a 91 brumby. I was wondering where should the temperature guage sit at the normal operating temperature? When should the thermo fan kick in.

Thanks & Hello :)

Negating enviromental factors all mine have sat on 1/4 gauge once warm (EA82T x3) i have been in several other Subarus though (Brumby's included) and they have all sat between 1/4 and 1/2 gauge.

This varies (i know there is an actual figure) however i have always run mine on a by-pass switch so can not remember the actual figure anymore.
Toyota 105 Series LandCruiser (that nobody on here wants to really hear about).
RX Touring Wagon - fitted out for 4WDing (currently collecting dust).
RX Project - will be road only at this stage (and currently taking way to long to finish).

A couple of weeks after i bought my Brumby i took it to a mechanic cause the thermo fan hadn't come on once.
Nothing wrong with it.
Normal spot on the gauge was a bees whisker below half(45% of scale), the fan came on at about 60% of scale.

Thanks, My thermo comes in about a needle size above the half way mark, the guage never goes any higher than this once they turn on. Is this normal or to high?

Also could anyone tell me where the termo switch and the temp sender is located?

Thanks

Missed your post...
That sounds normal.
Thermo switch is toward the bottom of the D/S tank of the Rad.
Temp gauge sender is in the block behind the manifold.

yes that is normal, most cars only read the last 10 or so degrees on the guage any way
