1990 ej22 fault code 30.

Hi
Have just completed an ej22 conversion and appart from a dodgy knock sensor its gone well. I am however getting an intermittant check engine light and after do checking for fault codes it is showing 3 long flashes (ie code 30)
I have found only one or two mentions about it of the net but no details on how to get rid of it. I am lead to belive that it is to do with the ecu coming from an auto. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I could no find any fault code 30 in the FSM

Here is a list of codes Subaru OBD codes

Have you tried clearing the memory?

What plugs do you have plugged in?

HI Gannon
We plugged the green plugs for the test, which first up gave us the code22 for the knock sensor which we replaced and cleared the memory.
While out for a drive on Sunday a intermittant the check engine light can on for a while then off for a while and back on, this happens all the time while driving. We did a test and it showed three long flashes code 30

Make sure you have both the green (test) plugs and the black (memory) plugs unplugged. Code 30 is not listed as it means there is either plugs joined or faulty earth.

Both plugs are undone, Would that be the earth for the ECU?

Hi Marc,

Yeah the earth is on the ECU wiring.. but also check the ones on the engine.

Hey thanks for the replies, It looks to have been caused by the transmission selector pin still being grounded (the computer was looking for signals from the auto). Once the wire was cut the light dissapeared, will keep an eye on it let you know for sure if that was the fault.

Its in my mates beetle, its replacing a webered ea81, as you can imagine it goes bloody well. Lots of power but also very smooth and much more drivable. Now to do my L series and Type 3............... I hate being left behind.

yeah its a "festy", lol, currently running an ea81 and auto, its a nice cruiser, Not quick but heaps better than when it was dub powered.

Thanks, This is the baja we just put the ej22 into with my L series sedan behind it.
