EA82 fan belts

Post by mika03au » Mon Aug 01, 2011 1:43 pm

I have recently fitted power steer to my 1989 DL wagon.
A good move with the 15" wheels its got...
Anyway, ever since I am having trouble with my fan belt stretching.
The car was a manual steer/no aircon basic wagon.
I have fitted just the single belt that links all pulleys, water pump, steer pump, alternator and crank pulley.
Is this the correct set up? Does any one else have, or did have, the same problem?
Cheers.

Yep that is correct. Two belts are better and the usual way Subaru did the job on the EA82s.

If you're out of adjustment it's time for a new belt...

Thanks mate
If I went with two belts then the second belt wouldn't be adjustable as the only adjust point is the alternator...
How is the second belt adjusted?
I have fitted new single belt, hope this one doesn't do the same...may have been a c**p belt I fitted first time around!
Cheers.

The second belt really only used when AC. I went from two to one belt when the AC went in the bin and run same as you. Only problem I get is usually at night on high beams, wet night and go turn on take off sometimes get a squeal from belts. 50,000km......
