ea82T trouble....HELP!
ea82T trouble....HELP!
hello everyone, i will try in my best english to tell you my problem.
I build a ea82t in my '72 beetle, starting is not the problem but revving (rpm's) is.
when the engine is in neutral it runs "fine" (exept of the ignition timing)
but when i want to kick the pedal down (full power) it stops , but with half throttle I can rev it op to 6000rpm.
I attached my boost gauge and it gives no pressure from the turbo, it stays in the negative/vacuum field. but when I want to create boost it stops running.....
I checked my Throttle position sensor and adjusted it, doesn't work, replaced my sparkplugs, doesn't work....checked my airflow meter, nothing wrong with it.
(fuel pressure is between 2,0 and 2,5 bar (30/40 psi) is that enough?)
i think you are more experienst with engines as me, thanks for reading this!
(ow i have 1 trouble code, number 11 but that is since yesterday before that is was the same as my story above)
gggrzzzzz hyfly

Re: ea82T trouble....HELP!
That is correct for fuel pressure, I just recently checked mine at that too by specs in the manual. The Downloads link on this page will give you the 2 part manual for EA82 for 4 plug ECU type. Good guides in section 2.7 for trouble shooting.Hyfly wrote: (fuel pressure is between 2,0 and 2,5 bar (30/40 psi) is that enough?)
By the looks of it, there are a few of us having problems with EA82T's, hopefully the solutions get posted, watch these too.

i am not up on all this myself but i do remember hearing that if the is a problem with the knock sensor or it,s not hooked up it will not allow the ecu to take the motor to full rpm as it assumes there is an internal problem and rather then blow the motor it will just shut down......it will affectivly go into safe mode....i could be way off the mark ??
To answer the last 2x posts...
the knock sensor will only retard the ignition when it detects. I didnt think it needed a reference for normal running conditions?
If you have a non turbo MPFI ECU and wiring such as mine, it doesnt know jack about it anyway as it never had one!

Having the knock sensor disconnected makes the ecu run on the rich. Thats it as far as I know.
1)spark, ok plugs replaced, but is the dizzy ok? had a problem b4, revving was ok, but under load it would faulter and sometimes stop...turned out the dizzy was worn out. you see under load the spark requires more energy to operate, if half the gap is happening between the dizzy points (the rotor and the cylinder contacts) then its already lost half the energy.
2)fuel, well the injectors might be stuffed when trying to deliver more fuel under load. seems your fuel pressure may be ok, given previous comments.
could try plugging another ecu in.....thats all i can think of atm

your negative to your fuel pump connect directly to the ecu..it is called the load connecter..it sense,s load from the pump and varies the pump and also stops the pump when engine is not turning,on some models..Hyfly wrote:okey, I was working the diagnostic test out.(test mode connector)
and suddenly my feul pressure dropped to 13PSI...
feulpump runs fine, but the pressure is not going up.
is it possible that my pressure valve on the motor is controlled by the control-unit (ecu)??
thanks!
