Post by chubby37 » Thu Oct 13, 2011 12:38 am

Hello all.our 91 front wd auto lib has developed a really weird problem.its started a bad rattling noise that sounds like its coming from the bell housing.is it possible for something to rattle around in there?.it just started all of a sudden, pulled in the yard then backed out and about 200mtrs up the road it started.the car has been parked in the shed since.

Ok I pulled the engine out with help from zita and the dogs.I found the torque converter bolts finger barely finger tight.I can't see any hit marks but sounded like something rattling.

Possibly somewhere on the exhaust. I have rattling the whole time my Forester running. Mainly from the heat shields on the exhaust and tailgate. Have a look near the headers and check all the heatshield aren't loose.

Thanks guys.I found it.the torque convertor being finger tight let the convertor move while running just enough the it hit the teeth on the starter.I could not move it by hand tho.
