Subaru mechanic in Melbourne
Subaru mechanic in Melbourne
Anyone know of a resonable mechanic in Melbourne thats wanting some work but won't charge like the big boys.
I basically have another RX turbo I want to get running which has a cracked head and can get a second hand head for $150 which i'd like fitted.
Ive been quoted 1000-2000 for the job from a few workshops but its a bit much considering u can get a running one for 2k lol
May even suit someone who knows subaru's whos a ex mechanic or done it before and has the equipment to do the job.
I guess it comes down to someone who's happy to work for a bit less than the $60- $70 hr average
Please help.

Try Ross Fraser at Cromwood Auto Service in Burwood. He's done some work for me previously (rewelding pulled out suspension mounts, as well as regular servicing) and his prices are pretty reasonable - especially compared to genuine Subaru service costs....
It is a business, so it won't be "mates rates" but he is pretty good with Subies and came recommended to me by members of the WRX Owners Club and OffroadSubarus.com members.
Worth a call... 9808 4820.
I think one of his guys runs an early Lib that's done up a bit - there's one parked near his shop all the time.
Cheers

Try VolksBaru in Airport West - 11 Earl St 3042, (03) 9330 3455
I've heard good stories but haven't actually gotten my car serviced or worked on by them - worth checking out... but prices is unknown.. I had a quote once and I believed it was reasonable.
Other places I can think of is Brain from SubaBits in Clayton.
Cheers

Thanks guys Ive used Lucas Auto a bit standard pricing. He put the lift kit in and awd dearbox
Cromwood auto is actually just around the corner tucked away from me. He quoted a great price so the subaru is there now
Had a squiz at the head out, pretty much the leak occured b/c the gasket was worn, its going to be tested, recoed anyway as 80% of the cost is getting the head out damn it.

Cromwood - Burwood Victoria
hey guys thanks for the recommendation. I want to support the comments in relation to cromwood. A friends car was running badly and needed some attention., I was not sure if the problem was electoral of with the fuel injection. After reading various reviews here and elsewhere I decided to have it checked out.
Cromwood were able to quickly diagnose that the problem was with the ignition leads. They managed to fit me in and fix the immediate problem and at minimal cost. I will recommend their service and if they can not do the work required will steer you in the right direction, which is the best service that can be provided. A company to trust.

WRP10 fixed at last - thanks to Cromwood Auto
Hi Guys,
Thanks for your posts, i found the thread cos i was looking for a decent Subi mechanic and didn't want to go to a Subi dealer.
Here was my issue, my car (2005 WRP10) was pulsing heavily thru the brake pedal and was vibrating heavily thru the front under all breaking, hot and cold. i went to and braking specialist that machined the front brake rotors, checked the pads etc. He could find the problem and recommend i change over the ABS computer (which was functioning perfectly) at a cost of $1,000+
Bugger that! so i lived with the annoying prob for a few months while i was getting advice online for potential fixes.
Based on the info given on this site i called Ross at Cromwood Auto he said it was 95% a rear braking issue, so i booked in 2 days later and about 3 hours later the car was fixed. The driver side rear rotor was screwed due to a very soft impact to that corner of the car (just had scratched paint - no panel damage). After it was fully inspected and repaired at Cromwood, it was good as new and I was a happy camper.
Best of all, i was hoping to get away with the fix for $350, the bill including parts and labour - $150. ohhhh yeah! I have no hesitation in recommended Ross at Cromwood Auto, i will be going there for any servicing and fixes in the future.
Thanks again for the referral guys - I wouldn't have found this guy with out your advice!
