surging problem in ea82t
surging problem in ea82t
Just finished fitting an ea82t into my brumby. I am having a problem with it surging at about 50 - 60 Kph, above that or on boost it drives fine. But just cruising along it shudders and is very unresponsive if driven fairly gently. If I am fairly heafty with my right boot it rips along, but thats not very practical, even it is fun. Fuel preasure is good 35-45 Psi, changed the plugs and dizzy cap, checked the timing etc.

Checked the injectors? Pop the plugs off them and check the terminals for corrosion. Maybe have the whole set of injectors sonic cleaned too.
This 50-60kph, is it irrespective of gear? Or is it just in one gear (3rd maybe?). If it's in a particular gear, what RPM is the motor at?

sorry I havent got back to this, have been very busy and had to wait to I got around to fitting a tacho and boost gauge and test the fuel preasure. I am using the original pump to fill a 1.25 ltr surge tank and a fuel injector pump from a BMW to supply the engine, fuel preasur is 35-45Lbs depending on engine load. The problem seems to be when there is little engine load and thottle input at aprox 1800 to 2000 rpm in any gear. Having owning an original rx I know that they have a flutter at about 2500 to 2700 rpm when changing over from closed to open loop, but this engine does it here aswell as at the lower rev setting. It also seams to like to idle at 1000rpm even when I wind the idle stop screw in, then sometimes it almost stalls and idles at 500rpm. I was thinking maybe water temp sender fault for that problem and maybe not having the speed sensor connected for the first problem.
rxbrumby, dont know if you have been following other posts in the Troubleshooting section, but a few of us are having similar problems.
I found the air flow meter needed cleaning on mine and fixed 90% of its probs.
I now suspect the O2 sensor is faulty, due to measured response with similar symptoms to what you describe.
Cheers, Roger

which pump do you have running off the ecu?rxbrumby wrote:sorry I havent got back to this, have been very busy and had to wait to I got around to fitting a tacho and boost gauge and test the fuel preasure. or do you have a stand alone ecu?
the efi pump should be purely connected to the ecu and nowhere else..as the ecu has a load sensitive negative trigger which varies the pump as it needs to...i would not be installing a pump direct to power as the results in over feeding the system from time to time..also do you have a fuel line damper fitted to the hi preasure line?
this is necesary for correct injecter function...
the idle problem your having is 1 of 2 things..1/ either your timing is out..this can only be set correctly with the green connecters together and the throttle switch closed to have any effect...
2/your aav is not working correctly.. you must manully check your aav to see if it is closing fully once warm..if your coolant is low your aav will not hold closed..even though it has its own heating element..check these and see how you go
