A select monitor is what the Subaru dude plugs into your car to tell him what is wrong. Lets call it a diagnostics plug.

Do you need it ?? No not if you don't want people to plug in a Select Monitor once your conversion is done. Yes if you do.

You can get the same info give or take a few things from a multimeter and the engine warning light once the black plugs are togeather.

No need to bypass it as it ha no cross overs in it so will have no effect if you just cut the plug off.

Make sure you keep the green and black plugs though so you can run your test cycle an get error codes off your engine light.

I hope that helps

Keep it will. you will regret it down the track if you need to diagnose the thing.

id definitely keep it, you can read live data of the engine with this plug and also reflash your ecu with a new tune if you plan on doing mods in the future.

Gen 3 and from what i have heard you cant reflash 89-96 computers. You can however get a chip for $350 that way cheaper than a flash and it will put you into the mid to high 13's once you have done your exhaust and intake mods for another $1000.

Keep it in you never know but i've had my RS for 4.5 years now and have leant to live with out paying subaru way to much cash and I just use the black and green plugs.
