a good wrestle with a pair of pliers should get them out, you have heaps to grip on.
did you check that the holes on the cup lines up with the splined shaft out of the gear box? it looks to me like it doesn't. when you look through the hole you should see daylight (it can be a bit awkward to line it up).
it is also worth wriggling the cup in and out a bit as you tap them in initially so that the hole lines up (even if the rotation is right, they can still be displaced horizontally).

hope that helps.

Try moving the shaft 180 degrees.

got it all on all sweet and went for a test drive but now i have no brakes which was fun in the hammering down rain. it had a bit of pressure on the peddle but would eventuall go all the way to the floor and the car wouldnt slow which was concerning, gotta love hand brakes in the wet.

If you dont get the spline dead on, the pin wont go in. I've spent too much time on it, but persistance and a stiff neck pays off.

I'm glad someone else gets stiff neck. Yeah, sometimes just needs a shove closer or further from the box for things to line up.
Why no brakes now ??
