I did and got 24 pages of options ?? I got stuck in 4WD too, only alerted as I pulled up in the driveway. Won't select reverse, can't go forward anymore, thinking nuetral and roll back enough to try forward again and go for the nature strip to clunk it out back into FWD.
Was in it so not to lose traction on recent wet road

Simply jacking up on styands don't work to get it out does it ?

Think not. Only advice I have given is to get on loose stuff, or half loose, half solid if must, move forward in gear and go for FW on the down shift of gears.

Need to get self in that place.

Oh for a turntable driveway .....

Yeah Ive had my 4spd stuck in 4WD. This one particular spot I used to go had a soft sand roadwall that I had to crawl up and check for traffic before pulling out onto. If I didnt pull out of 4WD before turning on the pavement It would be stuck in 4WD. I usually just turn the opposite way and it slides straight out. I just thought it was windup in the driveline and worn transfer gears (?). I would have thought jacking up a wheel would achieve the same thing, though I do suppose parts probably wear out inside the gearbox related to selecting 4wd (I believe they are like little jelly beans).

as usual, took longer thinking and asking about it than actually resolving the problem.

could not select reverse, had a garage in front of me, could drive no further forward enough to fix problem even if I put sand under wheels, to roll back, hardly room and no steering due to binding.

rolled out the trolley jack and started with rear end as handbrake on fronts held in place and as I started to jack it up, no handbrake on rears, I could hear the tension release, from the wheels as they started to leave the ground. Jumped inside to find lever slipped back to FWD ( I think

)

i thought i'd heard stories of transmission guys not even being able to unbind these old beasts, so thought jacking up was not gonna be my answer

phew!

back to finding clutch in the EA82 in the Brumby.....

The best way is to drive in reverse turning left or right whilst pushing down hard on the 4WD lever. Failing this, just jack up one of the front (not back unless you lift both) wheels and all tensions will be released.
