EA81 carby dramas
Hi all
I have a 83 Leone with the EA81 carby engine.
I have a major starting problem takes ages to start if not at all. When you do get it going driving it is a pain seems to lean out with fuel.
The carby has only one solenoid which i have replaced but still have the same problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
PS: i have done a search here for info but had no success only the mod to put a weber carby on it.
Thanks
Jimmy

Thanks for the replyGTlegs wrote:its not flooding on start up by any chance is it? Ie, do you hold the pedal flat to the floor to make it start?
No its not flooding at start up and i have tried to hold pedal down flat with no result.
When i the pull the plugs out the left had side facing in the engine is dry the other side is moist.
When you do get it going it does not rev out which tells me it is lean it also has a back fire.
once the engine has been started it i will start easy but still has the misfire under rev's.
Thanks

before the next first thing in the day start - rip out plugs and see if they are wet like in water wet or fuel wet (not likely fuel first up)
when wet after trying to start, can you light wet stuff ?
fuel burns, water won't
thinking behind this is head gasket or inlet man gasket leak overnight while under pressure ?

A few weeks ago I had lots of trouble starting my ea81. I initially thought it was related to a water crossing I did the day before, but the problem turned out to be a disconnected hose. I felt like a real goose when Curlie pointed out it to me.
The hose was reconnected and I haven't had any more starting problems.

Left side tappet cover. It was the thick (? 15mm diameter) rubber hose which comes out of the top of the tappet cover. Was hard to see that it was off until I got a torch shining down there for a look.

Will have a look but how does that realate to the carby?
When you mean left hand side tappet cover is that looking at the engine from the front or do you mean passanger side of the car.
I have a hose on both rocker covers.
Thanks
