2005 forester xt surging

Hi guys,
I have a stock 05 xt that surges but is worse when cold it has a new fuel pump, fuel filter, plugs.
the other day I got into it when I took off from the lights and it pretty much just cut out when it got up in the revs. I have cleaned the maf but still surges. I had it idling and unplugged the maf and it stopped instantly then threw a cel and cruise control was flashing has now gone out.
any help would be appreciated

G’day Dan,

If your XT has the butterflies above the intake ports, it could be these that are causing your issues. They’re either sticking closed or the motors that operate the butterflies are not working properly.

Ohh yeah I’m not sure if it does. It does have the secondary air pump thing if that helps. I’ll have a read when I stop for lunch
