engine problem with 91 brumby

Hi im haveing a little problem with my engine atm (ea81) its been siting in my shed for about a month now because im rebuilding it. i tryed to start it the other day but all it would do is just click and wouldent try to turn over, so i checked the battery and the starter they seem to be ok because i tested them on my other car and it dosent seem to be siezed. any help would be
greatly appreciated

can u turn the crank with a socket and bar?

does sound like a flat battery tho or one without enough charge to turn the motor after the oil had basically drained outta it.

i need to ask but do u no wt ur doin with a rebuild?

when u put pistons back in did u oil up the bore to elt them slide mroe freely.

ohh im not rebuilding the engine sorry i ment it been sitting there while i have been repainting it and doing body work. i thought it was a flat battery at first aswell but it work fine in my leone. it was working fine the last time i started it so i dont know what the problrm is

double check all battery connections are tight. grab a multimeter and see what the battery is putting out. It really does sound like a flat battery (or a crap connection)

ahhh i see now

yep check the battery terminals are tight

if not put a multimeter across the battery out of the vehicle and see wt voltage it has.
shuld be round 12.6 to start a car any lower and it wont.

how long since its been started?

check that the cables havent started coming outta the terminals aswell. even if the terminals are tight on the battery posts it may still not get much current if the wires are coming out. (mine did that once when i went to go to work ages back lol)

I'd be checking the spark plugs and fluid levels just as a precaution - make sure non of the spark plugs have coolant on them - worst case senario would be that a cyclinder has filled with coolant from a dodgy head or inlet gasket and is hydrolicing, making it near impossible for the starter to turn the motor over once the piston is trying to compress the fluid...

This is way out there and i'm hoping its not the case, you have tried the trick matatak has suggested with a socket and bar to turn the engine over by hand (with ignition off)?

If the engine turns over with no problem maybe try tow starting it.

Yeah that sounds the go. If this is it, hit the starter with a hammer gently on the solenoid (little cylinder bit with the battery wire and other wires hanging off it), this may make it un-stuck enough to throw out and engage with the fly wheel...

i will check that tonight, its hard trying to find time to have a good look at it atm.

i have tryed that i even took it out and put it in my leone and it worked perfectly.

have you checked the terminals on the solenoid? what about testing the voltage at the starter motor, any huge drop when cranking could be the battery (needs more than 9 volts to spin it over quick) or the starter motor could be "poling" try your Leone starter on the beast?Tryed spinning it over on the starter without the spark plugs fitted? this would tell you if it is Hydraulic locking with coolant as the coolant should come out the plug hole under pressure.

Thankyou u everyone i fixed the beast i replaced the battery cables with new ones and now it starts, must of been a bad earth or the wireing was shot anyway thx again.
