Hi, I think I am thinking about to rebuilding my carby. Car has 200,000km oil is changed when dirty.
CAn anybody tell me how many km I should get out of a full tank?
The car struggles a bit for a couple of minutes when cold, but starts first turn of the key, and when warm drives great. Am getting 400km per tank
Also should I do something about the cat? like get rid of it. How much should I pay for a new one? and should I do this at the same time as the carb?
Cheers

Gday mate, welcom to the site! If you're getting 400k's to a tank, even with a struggling ea82, don't be too hasty with rebuilds or removals ,jeeze you're getting at least 40klm further than i do on a tank! Seriously though, try a squirt of throttle cleaner, check the spark gaps-dizzy cap-leads etc. and if you don't own a timing light, get someone to check how far your timing is leaning , check the running gear and listen to your car. Mines ticking early morn in the cold, has exhaust leaks, starting to fade on hills but it's just rolled over 310,000k's without any major mechanical work, so i reckon yours might be a wee bit healtier than mine. There are also the performance options listed in the workshop/troubleshooting sections of the site. Good Luck!
You are doing very well to get 400km per tank!, around town i'm getting up to 350km. The cat is there for a reason but if you remove it the you'll need to replace the exhaust otherwise you'll get a big hollow sound and it'll be loud right under the seat, i did this in a BA falcon and regretted it. Maybe you could replace the exhaust from the back of the cat, put on a hotdog and good muffler! You can keep your carby and have it jetted for extra performance but you'll use more fuel, even more so if you go for a weber carb.Maybe the MPFI motor will be a bit more fuel efficient and have a bit more power? but it's a bit of a job to convert i'm sure. If your carby shows signs of leakage around the gaskets and linkage shafts then it might be a good idea to have it reconditioned.Good luck with it.
