Beemer street car - 1990 M5. Happened to me 12 months ago - I was doing a track day at Winton and topped the oil up at the motel before heading out to the track. I was talking to someone as I put the oil cap back on - and didn't get both lugs in, so the oil cap was a bit loose and I didn't spot it. Drove a couple of k into town and started to lay a trail of smoke. Stopped, bonnet up - and the flames started to come out over the top of the headers. Blew it out with a couple of big puffs, much to the amusement of the onlookers. No damage done.needs alot of heat but.
if this was in ur Beamer race car then id expect it wuld have alot more heat on the headers than our cars.
or am i mixing u up with someone else lol

Mine is doing the same thing currently, it has been well over 12 months and I am actually going to fix it real soon with a recon'd rack (rack leaking onto cat).
Seems to smoke a fair bit and make some nasty smells sometimes when the car is stationary. I figure if you just keep moving the fire will put itself out
