90 model Brumby won't start

It has an EA81 engine in good nick & normally runs well. The other day it just wouldn't start, just nothing? The only clue I have is that when I went to turn off the ignition after trying to get it going it sounded like it alost fired when the key was halfway between ignition & off. Could it need a new ignition switch or key or whatever? Anyone got any clues?

Yeah does sound like the key barrel. My Ea81 barrel only fires when you hold it hard past the start section. Makes me scared every time thinking my battery is dead.
If you got no dash lights at all then it could be something more sinister.

Mine did exactly the same thing. Pull off the ignition plug and use a few bits of wire to hotwire it. Need to bridge the contacts for ignition on and the contacts for the starter. This will confirm if your barrel is faulty or not.
Alternatively turn the ignition on and assuming all the dash lights come on etc, go short your starter motor using a screwdriver and see if it starts.
F-ing wreckers charged me a fortune for a new barrel with keys. Thankfully it was just the back end that was stuffed, so I got one cheaper without keys and swapped the back parts around.

i'd see if you can get a new switch from an auto parts store. i got one for my 323 a few years back.

It could be something simple as the screws holding the switching have become loose or more commonly it is the contacts in the switch burning out due to a faulty starter motor in the past.
L series switch plugs will also fit on the MY/Brumby switch barrel

I was sure it was my ignition switch so I fitted a new one & it still won't start. I then checked & it seems to have power everywhere it should but there is no sparks at the plugs. It's got me beat.

Or the ignitor in the dizzy if electronic. Closed up points on conventional. or the dizzy shaft may not be moving.

Yeah check the dizzy. What year ea81?? Electronic or points distributer? If it's got points then it's most likely that.
