custom grille, seats, taillights for brumby

Post by kona480 » Tue Nov 25, 2008 8:06 pm

hi
just wondering if there is any custom grilles like a billet grille to suit a brumby.
can you buy one designed for another car and cut/modify it for a brumby?

also what kind of bucket style seats(stock) from another car would fit it?

and finally can you get clear tailights for a brumby. or if you can slightly modify the brumby to fit other cars tailights?
thanks

Apparently Mazda seats (323,929,etc) fit pretty easily, but I haven't tried myself.
'91 brumby, EJ-Turbo with VOSChip, 2" lift, 15" superlites, Dual Range AWD.

'93 Subaru Legacy, 2.2 auto, automatic seatbelts, LHD.

Not to my knowledge. I think the only aftermarket acsessory made was a front spoiler by kamei. But they went out a while ago. However I managed to pick one up on ebay just recently. Some bloke had kept them in his shed for years. I don't think there's any left, there was only a few.

The little front lip that was on there came from an early 90's mazda front bar, it was the bottom skirt on the bar, I just turned it upside down and modded it to fit.

the new one looks better though.

There is a site in the us that says they still stock them, I'm not sure how out of date it is though.

As for seats well you can modify many kinds to fit. I don't know if any other than 79-84 sedan/wagon or 79 up brumby will bolt directly in though?

I've thought about how to modify some clear tail lights, cos I wanna do the same. I reckon the best bet would to find some with a similar depth, width and hieght. Cut them to the correct outer size and modify them to fit the original tail light backing plate.
I'm not sure how easy it would be, but it would really depend on the donor tail light. I haven't seen or heared of anyone else doing it.

:D

WHat model brumby did you put the mx5 seats into, and what model mx5 did the seats come from?

If you dont know mx5's then the NA had pop up lights, NB had the fixed lights...and I doubt you got new NC ones.

Any thing is possible provided your prepared to pay for it, Seat can be quite easy to make fit just check the width to make sure you can make them fit, Legally the backrest only has to be the same height for use of the seatbelts.
Hot rodders make a billet kit for universal applications but you might be able to fabricate something for the grill or cheap and tacky paint it black and glue some chrome strips across.
87 targa brumby (Neglected),
92 targa brumby (weekend runabout),
97 Lifted Outback (Dailey drive),

+ others.

all brumby seats are the same in terms of mounting from 89-92
to fit mazda seats you have to pull the rails off your origanal seats and bolt them onto the new ones

i know 626 and 929 seats fit

adn is the same with my wagon 81-84
- 92 brumby, ej22, MT5AWD, lseries low range, centre diff lock, glf5 dash, 5 stud conversion
lifted 3" front 2" rear all rolling round on 27" khumo Kl71's
more in progress ie:adaptronic ecu and sc14 supercharger

I had a set of liberty seats in my brumby, you end up sitting a bit high because of the adapters that were on it, then I used a set of RX seats.

If you're ricing your brumby up, I could sell you a mad spoiler :D

I'm not one of the people who knows the owner of that green Brumby but I'll bet you he didn't buy that grille off the shelf. Companies make billet grilles for cars like the current model Hilux that sells a couple thousand units a month in Aust alone not for poor old Subarus that have been out of production for 16 years. But don't be disheartned by that. If you have an idea of what you want your grille to look like just pull it out and see if you can change it. Or if you've seen a grille in something else you might be able to cut and shut it to suit. The word here is custom only.
The good thing about a forum full of old Subaru owners (or owners of old Subarus) is that they know what aftermarket parts are (or aren't) available. Personally, I've never got to the stage where I was so happy with the performance, capability and handling of my Brumbies that I thought about changing the grille. At the moment I'm building new trailing arms and cutting huge amounts of sheetmetal out of my rear end.
