i would like an indepth diagram showing where all emission hoses attach on an EA-82 motor, also i have a miss at idle and massive backfiring on decelleration and a very sluggish motor-barely going over 100kph. i have timed, replaced head gaskets, different carby all to no avail

Not getting over 100k is pretty common for an EA82.
The best I have done on a flat road is 140 and thats at around 6000RPM
Going up the freeway I barely get 90 going up the steeper parts.
The EA82's are just naturally under powered and thats why you will find lots of the members here have replaced them with EJ22's from libertys.
Pretty much the only way I know of to boost the power of an EA82 is to get rid of the crap hitachi carb and put a webber on.

You probably need to specify what month and year the car was made or complianced to help work out which details are gonna be any good to you for starters as bits were added over the models.
If you have fitted another carby is it the right one or one made to fit?
Those hitachis had hoses everywhere on my 11/87 manufactured wagon , bloody nightmare

it is an 9/1988 4wd wagon- compression tested at 1-160, 2-180, 3-160, 4-180. i have refitted original carby back onto motor now. tried for air leaks, none detected. no diagram inder bonnet only specs for plug gap/ idle revs.

I'm not sure you'll find in depth diagrams of the vacuum hoses/emission setup. As previously stated the subi's EA82 motors emission control systems changed with the emissions regulations practially from year to year.
If you've got too much oil in the sump this will drag power - sounds silly but my sister overfilled the oil one morning then later complained it wouldn't drive at 100km/h and was a gutless wonder moreso that it usually was... The airfilter was covered in oil and even without it the motor wouldn't go so well until we took some oil out of it.
Good luck with it, If you don't want to spend any money you'll have to put up with it. If you're up for some coin seriously consider the EJ22 option, read up about it and decide from there. Don't waste your money modding the EA82 - Just ask Keffa about his tale...
Cheers

your beast is less than a year older than the 11/87 make date L wagon I had. The manifold and carby are (i think) still around somewhere, possibly in one connected mess of hoses.
If you can say or describe which hoses you have problems identifying or can post up some low KB pics or send me a PM with an email address and I will try take pics when/if I find and send off to you for some possible use
Is that date 9/1988 off the compliance plate or a tag on the LHS front guard?

Hey someguy
My bog stock EA82 in me 93 sportswagon with standard carb (just rebuilt) just went to Bris and back to Syd, and still sits on about 145kph on the freeway. But yes not good on the steep stuff.
Cheers
