thirsty ea 82

Post by grytvikken » Wed Oct 12, 2005 10:56 pm

i have found that after not using my car much over the last few months that my l-series wagon has become very thirsty to run around town. its a standard carb ea82 its got 185r 14 tyres. what should i expect for an ea 82 to use around town. did a bit of an experiment ranit dry twice and filled it with just under 6 litres of fuel and both times got around 40 k's before it all stopped. i did it with my girlfriends accent to see what it would return and it went over 70 k's before it ground to a halt! any ideas as to what would chop into the fuel consumption so much

My L series is a similar setup.
I would expect you to get about 60k for you 6l.
I do 50 000kms a year in mine & consistantly get 10l/100km out of it. It doesn't make much difference if it is country or city cycle.
If the car hadn't moved for a long time the fuel may have gone off in the carb. This could gum it up & make it run wrong. I had this problem with a motorcycle & cured it by running a fuel injection cleaner in the fuel tank. A product like Spitfire may be worth a try.
