Caliper pin replacement
Does anyone know if the anchor pins on the calipers for an 83 Brumby can be replaced?

OK, now i'm sure if you don't know what i'm talking about, you won't be able to help, but i'll tell you in very simple terms. 83 Brumby front discs have a pin (bolt whatever, screw in at the bottom of the caliper, just like 90% of other cars. Now the top has a fixed pin, attached to what's called the "anchor" so the caliper can move up or down so as you can get to the brake pads and change them...very simple. The top pin as i said is fixed and they can wear and create too much movement inthe caliper. many cars, the pin can be replaced. My question was, can they be replaced on the Brumby. So if you're still lost, have a look at someones 83, it will all become clear.
is it what the caliper pivots on?
like you undo the bottom bolt and then you can swing the caliper upwards?
if it is this, then you can replace it. Pretty sure you can just pull it out, it has like a bit of rubber on the end of it whihc keeps it very tight in the hole.

From when I was working at a wreckers, I remember there was 2 different types of Calipers (1 for the solid disc and 1 for the vented discs) and I'm 99% sure that only the vented type had the slide pin that could be replaced.

Previous post is right. There are two sorts. One for the solid disc and one for the wider vented disc. I think you will find that the pads too are different. If you go to a brake shop they will tell you that there are two different pads for the MY. I've had both. The solid disc is found on the early wagons and I think if I remember has a bleeder on the end of one of those pins. But they rattle. Your supposed to grease them then as they slide in (has a rubber boot over the end) release the excess grease thru the bleeder.
Do your self a favour and get the setup with the vented brake, the pin set is different and I think more sturdy. Hope this helps. The gregorys manual makes reference to the change in the wagon which is about 1983 to 1984 or so. Most brumbies or all have the vented disc.

As stated in that thread reference by Toonga and you'll see my comments in there, if you go L series, you will need the hub too because the L series brakes will only bolt onto the L hub. I have been through this and ended up with heaps of positive camber having the L hub bolt onto the MY lower control arm. The brumby boys in Gympie didn't have that problem. If it was me, I would be raiding the front guts out of a later model brumby somewhere.

Otherwise if you find something in Perth, I or someone else might be down your way shortly.. Salmon season does crazy things to peoplescoobymine wrote:Thanks guys, my rotors are the solid type. I think I should have upgraded before I spent dough on rebuilding the calipers. Tried everything to eliminate the rattle (one side only) without luck.
Anybody in W.A south west got an upgrade hanging about??
Cheers
