EA82 not idling properly
EA82 not idling properly
Hi guys,
We got a L series a few days ago. It had a few issues as slipping clutch, noisy rear wheel bearing etc. But the engine ran fine.
We took the engine off to replace the clutch and after we put it back in, it ran fine for a day but now its not idling properly now. It would run fine from cold and then not hold idle once warm and engine would die.
So I turn the needle up a bit, it now idles but its very rough?
We also put a new thermostat in.
I looked of a vac leak but didn't find any yet, sprayed WD40 everywhere on the hoes but the idle didn't fluctuate at all.
Could we have put the fuel hoses wrong?
I don't have much experience with the ea82 as i have with the ej22 so i'm a bit lost.
The thing that's annoying me is that everything was fine for a day.
Will be swapping leads, plugs tomorrow to see if it makes a difference.
Would i need to swap the coil, dizzy cap and button?
What else can I try?
Thx
Guy

Started the car this morning, first turn of the key it started for a sec and then died.
Next turn of the key was about 10sec long and it didn't fire
Third turn of the key, with the foot on the accelerator pedal, the car started and the auto chocked kicked in. Engine idled normally, but was a bit high due to the chock.
Any ideas??? Pretty sure its gonna idle as shit once it gets hot.
We will replace the plugs and leads before we let it get warm and see if its the same.

some quick suggestions.
1 - replace engine with an EJ. This is an old carby EA82 - it's not designed to run properly. (somebody has to say it)
2 - check fuel line issues;
- yeh definitely check if you've hooked the hoses up wrong. I can't remember how they go (I ditched my EA82 carby engine as soon as humanly possible) but just reference someone else's car or check the manual for some diagrams.
- check/replace fuel filters
- is the tank full? Not running of mucky dregs of a nearly empty tank?

Lol, thx for the great advise Andrew.
We limped the car to the petrol station and filled about 3/4 tank.
The drive back was as smooth as skin of a baby's but lol.
I guess i was real low on fuel and that the tank must be dirty:D
Thx:S

Glad to know it's sorted. I still think it's worth doing an EJ conversion though. Paying money for fuel to be used by an EA82 is just crazy!
