L-series fuel tank filling issues

Does anyone have any problems filling up their L-Series?

I find that the automatic cut off at service stations doesn't let me put more than a slight press off the trigger to fill the car up. I've seen people fill up with LP Gas quicker than it takes me to fill my tank!

I'm guessing it's because there is a breather or overflow hose(s) that is blocked, but I don't have a clue as to how you would clear it or if it can be fixed?

I have that trouble occasionally too, varies with different pumps at different stations though. Normally it works better with the filler just slightly cocked back, not shoved in the entire way.

yep same with mine

i think that the breather tube is simply too small for modern fuel pumps, yeah works best if the nozzle is back a bit further or turned on an angle

yer guys i have the same problem,

however its all in the angle instead turn the handle so the back of it faces the back of the car instead of the ground and pull it out slightly.

after u do that there shoudnt be a issue

Yep. Same same here. To the point my breather line was blocked that much, when I gave the car a bit of stick it would create a vacuum in the tank and starve the carby of fuel. Real nice when you've just overtaken a road train and half a minute later you can't do more than 50kmh cos theres not enough fuel.

Yeah, I must admit, I've got the pump technique pretty sorted out now... although I've filled it to the brim on a couple of ocassions and ended up wearing a splash of unleaded. As a cologne, it has good staying power, but not much appeal.
