noise in the front of my L series.

Having replaced both outer cv joints and wheel bearings I thought I had got on top of the noises from the front of my 2004 L Series wagon.

Now it has developed a noise that kind of sounds like the pad rubbing from a hot spot on the disc but I dont believe its the disc. It only makes the noise when under load, accelerating or decelerating. If it coasts with no load, no noise. Im thinking it is either a gearbox bearing or an inner cv joint.

Any ideas ?

2004 L.Series is pretty special :p

I'm putting my money on loose CV nut. Best way to check is jack up the front of the car and try and rock the wheel by putting your hands at 12 and 6.

lol ... yea, what I ment was a 94 L series :p

I checked the front out, everything seems tight.
How often do inner CV's generally last for ?

Yeah.. I kinda gathered that by your signature :)

Inner CV joints can last the lifetime of the car if cared for. Check the rubber boots and also look for oil/grease splated around the areas.

Actually, you might be right about the CV nut. It didnt feel loose but when I took the nut off to pull the drive shaft out, it came undone without any effort.

I checked the inner cv and that seems fine. Took it for a short drive and no noise sofar.
