Tailgate Gas Lift Struts - Sportswagon

Hello,
Just wondering if anyone had found an online source for gas lifts for a wagon tailgate? I need some for a 94 sportswagon. There was a guy selling various ones on ebay a few weeks ago for around $80 a pair and now all his listings are gone!
I have been quoted $65 each in one local parts place but most of the others say they can't get them.
Thanks,
Ben

Repco have a listing I believe, but aint cheap (affordable). In the end I found a mobile strut man to re-gas (about $70 for the pair) Still going strong after 12 months. Keep trying, you will sooner or later fix it for a reasonable sum.

Here's the guy I use but he's in WA.. I'm sure you'd have someone over your way if not you can post them over.

BTW.. just make sure one of your friends doesn't try and "fix" your old ones for you or you'll have none to sent him

Thanks for the responses.
Autobarn $80 each
Repco $97 each
Bursons $90
All were Monroes - However guy at Repco told me they have been on back order for ages and even if i order them I won't get them anytime soon!
Generic strut place in town didn't have any the right length.... (they only charge $40)
Going to try and find someone to regas them tomorrow.
If anyone has the contact for the guy that was selling them on ebay please let me know.
Thanks,
Ben

If you are in Melbourne, I suggest you to see this guy.. PM if you're interested I have his business card and he is in Essendon, I'm sure he'll charge half of that price you've been quoted.
Cheers

Hillbilly fix?
Open the tailgate, and pull the strut mid way towards you slightly,
When open, the bend stops it falling on your scone (sometimes...is a hillbilly fix after-all!)

I got cut a length of PVC pipe exactly the length of the strut when extended, cut a slot all the way down one side, slip it over the strut when the door is open, hey presto
Although it does make a hell of a racket rolling about back there...

Where are you in Victoria? I know a bloke in Albury who does the regas thing, did mine 4 years ago on the L series wagon and I still need two hands to start the tailgate shutting, and I'm 125 kilos!

Thanks for your replies.
I'm in Ballarat and rarely get a chance to get across to melbs.
Doesn't seem to be anyone I can find in town who does the regass thing......
Am going camping this weekend and don't want a hit on the head! Might go the pvc pipe or piece of 2X1 as a quick fix for the trip - classy.
Thanks guys,
Ben

No worries, Ballarat is closer to Melbourne than it is to Albury anyway, so you would be better off looking there anyway.

Got my struts sorted. Went around several auto joints today asking if anyone knew where i should go. Found a place called Trembarths automotive in Delacombe that have heaps of those generic ones. They fitted them up for me $45 each.
Thanks,
Ben

See if the WRX wagon struts will fit Paul. I've got a perfect set sitting here somewhere.

Indeed.
Those hillbillies are not known for their professional indemnity cover when providing such advice...
