Rear right wheel grinding/shudder/squeak

1990 L Series touring wagon
Happens mostly notably at low speed or when turning (esp turning left - i think). The wheel is kind of loose also (which would explain the shudder at times). I've taken off the disk(?) and have tightened the main nut and it's better - although haven't had time to take it for a proper drive yet... Still slightly loose. Anyway... bearings? Any suggestions? What about the rear diff (Hard to tell exactly where from the rear noise is coming from when actually driving).
Total beginner here - if you hadn't noticed.
