Washed underbody now spluttering on take off?

Post by apg39 » Mon May 23, 2011 1:55 pm

Bit worried I've done some damage, just pressure cleaned under the car...on ramps with decreased etc. Done heaps before & never anl issue but today I got mine up there (1.8 carby EA82, manual) & as soon as I went to take in 1st it spluttered, bunny hold a few times then was revving fine. No issues reversing off the ramps though.

Did a few stop starts & it kept happening only at take off...as soon as I was rolling it revved fine. If I let it idle it was fine but every now & again it sounded like it misses, starts to stall & coughs back to life. Exhaust pops quietly as well.

But as I left it to idle while I gave it a look over it started fixing itself? Seems ok now but dont want to trust it.

Have I put a bit of water in the intake or dizzy? Now evaporated & all fine?
Cheers,
Andrew

yeh, probably water in the dizzy or something similar. mine does it after cleaning with pressure, best way to fix it is take it on a drive, unless someone else knows a better way. dont let it sit, if the temp drops it might not start next time if the water hasn't evaporated away.

if anyone has any suggestions for stopping it happening in the first place i would be interested.

Yeah, dont wash the dizzy or wrap it in a plastic bag first. Get the car warm and take the cap off the dizzy and let the moisture evaporate out by letting it hang down or just wipe it dry with a rag and you should be fine.
