I have noticed over the last year or so that my oil pressure light stays on for about two seconds when I start the car in the mornings. It used to switch off straight away. Should I be worried? - (Oil is at the right level and good quality)

Yes I had that for a period and I can't for the life of me remember what was causing it. The oil was either thicker than it used to be or my alternator was dying, I can't remember which.

A new oil pressure switch for about ten bucks is a start - OPS008 or something close in Tridon, maybe it was OPS006. My EA81 has about 450,000km on it , gets oil chang every ten thousand km, does same, with the exception of this morning oddly enough did not even start with flat battery left out in the COLD

Myn did this and kept getting worse then the engine started knocking on start up straight after a service by a mechanic then i changed the oil and filter and it hasnt done it since and i live down in the snow of nsw so it get pretty cold here

Mine knocks on cold start up too- for a couple of seconds while the oil light is on.

I had an engine that did this and got progressively worse. Checked oil level, changed oil and filter but still carried on. Eventually the engine let go catastrophically - no 3 piston went through the crankcase. On inspection turns out the guy I had bought it from had put some crap in it when running it round his farm which had slowly clogged the oil pick up pipe and strainer from the sump to the point where no oil was circulating. For the sake of a new gasket might be worth dropping the sump and taking a look - you can do it with the engine in place.
