gen3 outback sloppy wipers

Post by Alex » Mon Jul 11, 2011 11:11 am

hey guys,

found another pretty minor issue with the new car over the weekend.

basically when the car is standing the windscreen wipers are fine, but when im doing up over 50km/hr and turn the wipers on the drivers side wiper runs off the edge of the windcreen actually damaging the paint on the A pillar.

when the wipers are off they reset in a different location each time, sometimes slightly higher up the windscreen than normal, sometimes very low, almost hitting the bottom gutter when they stop.

when they are off, i am also able to move them by hand say about 10cm up and down the windscreen. This is not possible with my gen3 liberty which are tight and i cant physcially move them with my hands at all.

ive got no idea how they work in a gen 3. What could be causing this? Loose wiper arm bars (which are concealed somewhere) ? dead or dying windcreen wiper motor? or perhaps as easy as a loose nut sumwhere? i have also made sure the nuts where the arm connects to the stub bit are tight.

cheers for your help

I agree.. I've had 3 cars all do the same.. remove plastic trim under the arms and you'll see all

they cant be replaced, possible but id imagine itd be tricky

they have like a plastic cover over the connection which joins two bars together. This has broken so it just slops around.

last night i made my own custom jobby with duct tape as a bush. Its 100% better than before and they work properly but i can imagine it failing very soon haha.

needs to be replaced properly!

just found this pic on the net, dispalys whats broken on mine.

Image

because that plastic white cap is broken it allows the pin that connects the two linkages together to move around.

Yeah Alex.. they can be replaced but not from new (as I understand it) as Subaru only sell them as complete linkages but just grab a set of good 2nd hand ones and with some needle nose pliers, you'll be able to get them out. I'd check all 4 of them bushes.. might as well while you have them out.
