stupid question time - EA81 timing

I feel like i'm missing something obvious because both the Gregory's and Haynes manual don't make any mention of this.

So factory timing for an EA81 is 8 degrees BTDC. On the flywheel there is a 0 mark going to 10 degrees on both an A and a B side. What side is before - TDC? Is A advanced and therefore before TDC, or does B stand for Before?

A $300 service and tune up with 02 sensor etc had my car at 10 degrees on the A side. Car has been running like shit and running rich. I changed it to 8 degrees on the B side, adjusted the timing and fuel mixture and first test drive its spinning tyres and going like shit off a shovel. Did i waste my money, or were they right and something else is wrong with my car and i've just set the timing way too advanced?

The A side is After TDC, the B side is Before TDC.

The A side is TDC to 10 ATDC, the B side is 20 BTDC to TDC.

You have set it at 8 ATDC, should be gutless, something else is wrong.

Set the timing at 8 - 10 BTDC.

And you have an O2 sensor?

Thanks for the reply Gary. I just edited my first post so yours will make less sense now.

The mechanics had it on the A side. This arvo i changed it to 10 degrees on the B side.

No i don't have an 02 sensor, half the point of paying for a tune up would be so they set the fuel mixture while using an 02 sensor in the exahuast.

I'd demand my money back if they set it at 10 ATDC.
