Loose Brumby Steering & Gearbox

Hello, Yes i know it's probably on the forum somewhere but trust me i have been looking.
My 91 Brumby has a very loose steering wheel. ie. you turn it 45 degrees before it does anything. And subaru shrugged their shoulders at it!

The other problem is that the gear stick is also very loose.
I was wondering if anyone knew if there was anything i could do to fix these since subaru (insert sarcasim here) "looked very hard and tried to fix it".

Steering column - check the linkages under the bonnet just behind the driver's side bank of the EA81. There's a rubber disc in there than might need attention. I'd also look at the ball joints, tie rod ends and the steering rack itself to see how much play is in the entire system. It will most likely be a two person task
As for the gear linkage:
You will need a new bush and most likely rubber boot at the base of the gear selector to fix the sloppiness. You don't have to modify the upper mount point, this is only done to change the forward action of the gearstick to a shorter throw between 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th (straight shift).

I will have a look at the steering column and see if anything looks out of the ordinary (i dont really know what im doing)
The gearbox- would the brumby bushes kit for $50 that Andrew (Frog) is selling fix it?

That's part of the fix, the other part is slotting and putting a bolt through it as per the pic above. The $50 kit is for the bottom of the vertical stick where you can see the rubber boot.
Andy should be able to confirm this
