Clutch pedal not returning?

What would cause a clutch pedal in an MY01 Outback not to return (or spring back) sometimes? I can't recall if it's a cable or hydraulic clutch but i think it has a hill holder.
Is there a return spring or perhaps master cylinder rod sticking?

I would be thinking it's hydraulic on that model.
It could be that the hydraulic system needs to be checked out.
I don't know if there's a return spring on the clutch pedal itself, I can't remember there being one on the L series so I would say this is the same, but I could be wrong.
Maybe some further investigation is needed
Cheers

it would be hydrolic for sure. perhaps the master cylinder in the hydrolic system needs checked out. the hill holder would make a different i wouldnt think as its handbrake not clutch

there is a good chance it is the slave cylinder,Common problem.
1. Pull it out pull it apart.
2. Clean it in metho make sure you clean metal plunger really good.
3. Check rubbers or replace.
4. Lube with fluid.
5. Put back together.
6. Re-install.
7. Bleed system.
if this doesnt fix it, it will be the clips on the throw out bearing have come off but this is unlikely
