97 outback cel issue

hi there long time user first time poster. I recently bought a 97 outback limited (200k on odometer). It has, since i've owned it come up with an intermittent CEL. I used this forum and others to figure out it was poo032. Quote from subaru was large so i ordered 02 sensor from repco for $120 ish. Today I replaced the sensor, cleared codes, went for a drive and it still threw out the poo 32 code. Took my car to local subaru dealership who were really good ( didnt charge me). They plugged in there diagnostic and we stuffed around for a while. They came to the conclusion that its a dud sensor. Went back to repco who will get me another one for free, nice.

The car had a replacement motor just prior to me purchasing it. The suby tech noted it is a newer ej25 and still uses the original extractors. My question is, is there any chance i need a different (ie newer) o2 sensor to match the slightly newer engine? I recently did oil/filter and plugs/leads and the car runs better (less miss at idle and a bit smoother) but my fuel economy is poor.

ps I went to the joint who replaced the motor and they wanted 110 to just plug in and clear.

I've got plans for this beast (lift, bullbar, sump guard) but just need to get the motor sorted. Thanks in advance

So I got the replacement replacement sensor in, cleared codes and it still comes up. (032) So the sensor wasnt a dud. I read a thread on here about testing with a multimeter at the ecu. If I do this test and it isnt getting the volt change it should what will i need to do? Money is tight and i dont like the idea of going to an auto elec if i can help it.

Is there only one o2 sensor in the system? I know some of the later subaru units have two o2 sensors in the exhaust system, dunno if yours is one of these though - it's beyond my experience.

As for your question about the engine - so long as the wiring matches the sensors on the engine you should be all good in that department.

Cheers

There is only one 02 sensor on my car. That could be it, the newer motor may have come from a car with the rear sensor as well.

I can find out, i'll call them tomorrow. Cheers
