1. not unless you want to ...
2. definitely, cut of switch yes - no relays ... :D
3. all possible, you just need to go through the elimination process ... ;)

You may want to check the fuel line as well, it could be full of 20+ years of tank sludge

finally got a chance to look at the car today.

first off checked the fuse= good

so i went to strait to the fuel pump.
i blew air down the fuel lines that headed from the pump to the engine still no go.
the fuel pump does pump i can hear it, but no fuel is coming out of the pump :(
the filter before the pump has fuel and isn't blocked (fills up when emptied)

so could the pump still be stuffed even though i can hear and feel it pumping?

try blow through the pump- to- tank line ?

If your needle and seat is stuck on float bowl is full position you can be tricked into thinking fuel pump is no good. I was tricked once, and had to buy a new pump that still left me stranded outside the Ford dealer. Ford had to be towed home by a Holden :( until I found the Holley anti splash guard for bowl vent hole (crude eh?) on the 465 four barrel was fitted to the wrong side of the retainer gasket,(by me ! :( ) subsequently fel into the float bowl, sloshed around on the bottom and occasionally would jamb its wedge shape under the float as I went up inclines, like the one outside the Ford dealer

I'd remove the pump ( clean & inspect while your at it ) & do a 'bench' test with a suitable tank etc, to see if works correctly ...

Well done good to see it wasn't the fuel cut relay :)

So I have had time to look for this elusive box of tricks that doesn't exist. :)

instead of breaking my neck I got my trusty camera to do the hard work nope not there.

anyone have any idea what those 2 relays do? I turned my hazard lights on the flasher relay clicked but not either of them.

Image

Hmm I wonder if I pull the change holder where I can hear the the indicator relay can it be accessed ... wait WTF thats not the flasher unit ... ZOMFG thats it the elusive fuel cut relay

Image

and whats that next to it ... it was still clicking when I took these photos

Image

you can see the flasher unit (sort of) next to the fuel cut relay.

and read here for my little brumby won't start saga

Correct - dosen't exist ...
TOONGA wrote: ... anyone have any idea what those 2 relays do ? ...

They are headlamp relays ... Items 29 + 30 ( going by wire colours )
TOONGA wrote: ... wait WTF thats not the flasher unit ... ZOMFG thats it the elusive fuel cut relay ...
Umm - No it's not ... It's Item number 16 on wiring diagram ... Intermittant wiper control unit ... :p

P.S - That wiring diagram I refered to is pretty close to what every Brumby has, as posted elsewhere - When they made them in the factory, they used the same loom in just about every other MY model - So don't go reading too much into it, just ignore the bits that don't belong to the Brumby ... :)

That would be correct if the car was a 1982 -4 wagon or American delivered Brat :)

My brumby doesn't have factory intermittent wipers, no AU delivered brumby ever did.

It is the fuel cut relay I was talking about.

Do you have the correct wiring diagram for the 1989 Australian delivered brumby?

the only one I know of, is in Perth and the owner is currently driving oil rigs.

another phew as those cut out relays are about the 4 hunge mark or more exJapan.

Those relays side by side are the common old 22A Mitsu Fuji used almost everywhere for generations in our Subes as ignition, fuel and light relays. think those two are left and right configured.

The old shove-the-camera-in-the-hard-to-see-location is great eh ?

Thunder - make sure you toss the crapped out pump so it don't end up as a maybe it was a good one in a few years time.....

These pumps are cheap enough to have a spare rigged up for emergency repair diagnostics. Bit like having a spare coil mounted under the bonnet, spare module in the glovebox .....
