Water comng out of the EGR valve gasket

So i've blown something, gasket it loos like. i have water coming out under pressure from around the EGR vavle gasket, and it will virtually empty my radiator after i turn off the car.
Cant tell if its the actual head gasket or not, is it possible for water to come out under pressure from the EGR valve?
car drives fine when its got water in the rad, and will drive all day without issues, but as soon as i stop it pisses out steam and water.
ideas?

Model of car, year and engine type, is needed otherwise we are urinating in the wind sorry.
at a guess you have either a blown head gasket or a leak in your manifold.

I would look at the intake gaskets as they have a way of letting go after a few years.
as well you will need to check the compression to make sure it isn't a head gasket.
Check the little hoses that run from the engine to the intake, right near the area where you are describing. if they are the factory originals it could be one of them as well.
hope this helps

it does look to be a leak from under the intake manifold, its dripping down onto the block from what i can gather, all the hoses seem to be in good shape. Intake gaskets look ok.
It's only a slow drip until i turn the engine off then it really speeds up depending on how hot everything is.

this egr valve , is it just at the back of the hitachi carby ? wondering if it is trickling from the front of under the carby where the two hoses supply and return water to base of carby .....

After doing some reading on the EGR, there is no water jacket near it. so unless your manifold is completely stuffed, I would say as I did and Jonno did that it is one of the hoses shown in this thread on USMB.

they will look fine but the split will be right on the clamp or even worse the steel pipe in the block will hav a hole in it.

yeah i'll pull all the pipes of tomorrow and have a look 100%. but from testing it tonight it does seem to be a leak directly underneath the EGR, at first i thought the water was running down and pooling there but under pressure you see the area its coming from and there isn't a hose near it.
I'll post a vid tomorrow. much easy to see it.

From memory the EA81 has a water pipe that runs under the manifold. This pipe comes from the water pump and runs back towards the firewall and joins the heater hose at the back of the engine. There is also small pipe that tees off this and runs to the bottom of the carby. I have over the years changed many of these pipes due to corrosion, so I'm thinking this could be where I'd start looking. Also one thing to check is that small hose that comes off this pipe, make sure it doesn't have a small pinhole which is making water spray off to somewhere else, thus causing you to look in the wrong place. If you could have someone pressure up the system whilst you look around with a torch and mirror this might help.

this is from the FSM for the EA81 (
1983) very little has changed. It shows all of the coolant pipes on the top of the motor.
My brumby didn't have parts 17 and 18, hose 5 went directly to a pipe on the block.
I do know someone who has this diagram for the brumby (aka MV) but I believe he is busy moving his workshop this week.

Yes I do have one but I have boxed it away ready for moving this weekend.
Jules, from this picture/diagram it appears to be of the 1400cc or the 1600cc so it will be slightly different in that water pipe area. The way I remember is the metal part runs under the manifold, then at the back, the little rubber pipe comes off it and runs up to the carby. I forgot about the little pipe at the front but this is not near the EGR valve but worth checking whilst under the bonnet.

1983 EA81 very early American FSM which is why it looks so different to the AU one. it doesnt even have the brass heater tap ours does

That diagram looks basically the same as what's on Sunnie the Brumby - it's even got the tap (part #17) that I thought was added...
I'm putting my money on a pin hole in one of those little feeder hoses to the carb or the block - parts 2 and 5.
Cheers
