Hey there everyone.

I've got a mystery noise coming from under my bonnet.

I've got a 2005 Forester XT.

So the noise comes from this thing:

it's located to the non drive side of the car, just above the battery.

It's a shhhhhhhhhh kinda sound and it only happens below 10degs on a cold start and only makes the noise for about 30 seconds, then stops. It started making the noise only about 3 weeks ago, when it started getting cold.

What is this engine part and what does it do?

It has little clips to remove the top, but I haven't opened it yet.

Any help please??

Chees!!

Not quite. Why would an intercooler need a pump?

Its the secondary air pump. What it does is force air into the exhaust for a short amount of time after the engine has started to pass emissions regulations that came in around 2006.

Unless its making a squealing or grinding noise and the check engine and cruise control lights are on, I wouldnt worry about it.
