RS will not start

Yesterday she run great all day.parked it last night but I went to start her today and nothing.buy nothing I mean it won't fire.it cranks over nicely but just won't fire????

first is to ask if spark or fuel ? Start ya bastard type stuff, is a good start, if it fires sounds like fuel delivery problem, if you get spark is it happening at correct moment ?

Starting to think it may be my recently purchased fuel pump or hopefully relay which I'd prefer.

Hit it with a hammber, if that doesn't work hit it with a bigger hammber.

Ok, can you hear the fuel pump going. I can hear mine clearly from the drivers seat. I think that they skiped on the sound denting on the RS.

It turned out to be the 7month old fuel pump....warranty claim in morning

warranty claim if fitted without tank clans are usually void - hope tank was cleaned and can b proved

Update.pump tested fine, works good.....changed relays..checked for power at plug and its there....about to put pump back in that I took out yesterday

Pump tested pump back....nothing at all.won't work back in the car...how many wire at the pump plug should show power when keys on??

Pump back....tested off car and I know it works....would not work once in car....left car for a while...went back outside and fiddled with the pump plug but still could not hear or feel the pump...turned key and after a couple of splutters she fired up and reved good..turned off and started it 3 more times...WTF??...I bet by tonight or tomorrow it won't work again going on the past couple of days....

First turbo I have owned and I'm not up on them yet...if the timming is out could it stopbthe fuel pump from turning on and pumping fuel...is the a sensor

No there is no sensor to stop the fuel pump if the timing is incorrect that I know of, dodgy fuel pump relay more likely? Check your fuse box that holds the relays and swap the fuel pump relay for an identical relay if there is one, one that you know works, if this fixes the problem, you should have issues on whatever the other relay controls.

check the connector under the back seat cushion on the drivers side. If you cant find it follow the wiring from your tank under the seat.

its a common problem.

Oh ok....the plug at the tank...should there be 1 or 2 wire go live when the key is on?

dunno about one or two wires live at th pump or anywhere between the ECU/fuel pump relay and the pump.

There is something in your timing - the ECU only gives the power up - might switch the earth wire don't forget if the pos wire always has pos power with ignition on. The ECU makes the connectin for only three or four seconds on initial ign on, then off, until it knows engine is running reconnects again.

Test both neg and positive.

I have powered up fuel pump directly from small sealed lead acid battery, same type connector, from under car in order to keep pos and neg switched, to bang it into life, reconnect the ecu control plug and off I went

, until pump proved it was in slow death mode - would not deliver enough fuel for bost of any sort..
