Hey all,

I need a little direction. My father has just picked up a 90's fwd liberty (car for my youngest brother to learn to drive) for the price it was a steal..... But there is no reverse

It's not self diagnosing (no flashing power light) and nothing displaying through the check engine light either.

So where should I look first? Where is the tcu located on these? Any help?

Thanks

Does it shift from 1st > 2nd > 3rd > 4th normally when driving?

Good chance it will be in the linkage or the valve that directs oil pressure to the reverse gear, the TCU doesnt control reverse.

The TCU is mounted just in front (towards the front of the car) of the ECU when you look up from under the dash cluster. You will have to remove the trim just below the steering column. Don't usually have issues with the TCU but you can certainly try another one in there. Is the display on the dash cluster showing you that the shifter is going into the reverse position? I'd also check to connector plugs just at the front/top of the auto box. There is 2 large plugs and I'd make sure they are clicked in correctly and are dry inside them.
