Forester sunroof issue

Post by julian » Wed Nov 19, 2014 4:30 pm

Hi folks.

I'm having an intermittent problem with my sunroof on the MY04 forester XS.

When closing it attempts to "disarm" the wind deflector but doesn't like that so opens again.

I've cleaned and re-greased everything and reset the motor but still happening.

If I creep it forward it will close but opens again on its own.

I found this, and investigating as to its usefulness to my situation-

Anyone had or solved this problem?

So according to the US forums, this is a common problem with the 2003-2007 Foresters internationally. There is a technical service bulletin from Subaru 15-134-08R that details the problem and the requisite fix, and the link is above in the previous post.

You need part number 65409SA030 (repair kit spacer) to rectify this.

Installed today and problem resolved immediately. I took the time to clean, grease and adjust everything properly.

If you are going to have a go at this, rest assured it is very easy. You do need to press firmly to get the spacers to slot in, and it feels like a bit too much pressure until they pop into place.

Awesome news. I wonder if this is required on other Subaru sunroofs? I had trouble with my old H6 Outback and now I have closing issues on my Gen2 TT Legacy
