Hey,

After 4 months of sitting in a garage, the car won't start. All electrics work, and battery charged up. No sound coming from the starter, but belting it with a BFH didn't do the trick. I'm thinking it may be the ignition, as I've had problems like this in an MY. When this happened, I ran a wire direct from the battery to the starter, to bypass it, and removed it when it turned over.
Has anyone done this to an MPFI car. As an MY has stuff all electrics compared to an EFI L-series, I don't want to burn anything out, especially the computer by doing it this way, so I was after advice.

I know I can take off the starter and test it, but this is easier.

Anyone done this???

The engine will turn over, but i doubt it will start.

Have you got a multimeter?

Test for voltage at the starter motor, Black lead of multimeter to ground (any metal part of the chassis or the negative battery terminal) and the red multimeter lead to the spade terminal on the starter motor. If it shows a voltage, your ignition is ok and the starter motor is the problem.

See how you go

Using a screw driver or something similar bridge the spade terminal to the big nut with the lead that runs to the battery.

Make sure the car is out of gear first, or in Park for an auto, and try it, engine should turn over, then put the wire back onto the spade terminal and try starting it, if that doesn't work, put the key to the ON position and try bridging with the screw driver again.
