Almost stalling

Just a quick question to see if anyone can help, car is an 87 RX turbo.
everytime that i go to stop in my car when i put my foot on the clutch when slowing down, the revs will fall down to about 500 rpm and seem like stalling and then go back up to normal revs of about 1000 rpm.
it only does it when slowing down and also if sitting still when you rev the car
hope thats a clear enough explanation, any ideas?
Cheers Tim

Look at O2 sensor.

Yeah my RX turbo does about the same (has a microtech computer though). And sometimes, like today, it doesnt really want to idle at all - sorta barely alive at 500rpm shaking the car a little - and thats with aircon off! (otherwise i'd manually set the idle speed to about 1k-1.1k rpm)
How would you suggest checking out the O2 sensor? I've looked at it recently when pulling out the exhaust - its still there, looking fine, with both wires attatched a-ok.
Cheers

Make sure your throttle is returning and not held up by the damper. However sounds like leaning at idle [forget o2 sensor] either airflow meter or injectors. This is not a great test but try clamping off the return line when the idle drops. If it picks up RPM its fuel. Make sure there are no leaks between the t/body and the airflw meter.

my ea81t does the same, is worse when my headlights are on and the engine is still a bit cold. I put it down to being a smallish battery ... could be something more sinister though.

On an EA81, i would suggest it could be the Idle mixture is set too lean
