I will prefix this with this is my wanker of the week entry.....But if anyone can help. I am running an EA82 in a brumby with a five speed box the engine is to say the least a little tight in the bay.
I have just redone the head gaskets and reassembled it back into the car. When I turn it over it popped and now wont start I have a nasty feeling I have stuffed up the timming belts or reinstalled the dissie wrong. the sound it makes when turned over seems wrong (lumpy). So is there any way I can tell without removing the donk all over again and how would I do this? Any help would be appreciated my old lady is giving me grief and this is our primary drive so laugh it up and then help if you can.

If a timing belt is a tooth out it will sound not quite right as you say when you turn it over. A rocker arm could have dislodged during re-assembly might also make it sound i'll (i guess you cant get the cam covers off to have a look coz its too tight?) . So does it fire at all? surely you could check the timing belts by taking the covers off?

thanks for the reply yes I could get the covers off if I remove the rad conserned I may have swapped the timing wheels around probably not but maybe so I am trying to find out if I wind the motor to say No1TDS and so on any thaughts

need to be sure the dizzy is the right way around and check the timing belt is wt i think.

<cringe> why am I going slow on mine ? I have checked and double checked as I put it together, and crossing the fingers I won't be in here sayng the same thing. Looking at things tho you can do the belts and dizzy without engine removal. I have posted a how do you do your EA82 dizzy so there may be some ideas in there for you - i not looked yet meself. The cam pulleys look the same but I coulda swore i read in a manual there is a difference, like a spring pin - relooked and find no reference

just found a reference in words in the factory manual that says " camshaft sprockets are common between right and left"

or is it retarded ?
