accelerator stuck on

Post by vidler » Mon Jul 16, 2007 7:22 pm

started the car thismorning and it went straight up to the rev limiter. choke doesn't feel like its springing back properly and somethings sticking. gave everything a wriggle and a squirt this arvo to no avail. is there a spring thats gone missing somewhere? everything seems to be in order on the carby. was driving fine when i parked it where it is, has happened magically

any suggestions about the problem?

just make sure the accelarator thigno on the carby isnt pulled open all the way
if it is then there musnt be a spring on it pulling it bak. (not sure if there is one ther but i guess there wuld be somethign)
and then theres the accelarator pedal im guessin that ud notice if that was flat on the floor

but eyr its abit wierd lol

I had the same problem, had to have the carb rebuilt. Apparently its a combination of the mainspring (the long one) and the butterfly sticking.

last time that happened to me was on the highway attempting an overtake of an 80km/h oldie.. i overtook him alright.. backed my foot off at 120 but the car kept going till i foolishly put the clutch in at 140 (of course the revs went thru the roof) then switched the car off, braked, pulled over, let the old dude past :)

ended up being a WD40 job on the pedal and cable.... hope yours is similarly non-expensive.

I had the stuck accelerator problem on the Lwag.
its the spring at the accelerator pedal. I tried lube/oil etc, no work.
new spring $2.50 or so from Subaru dealer!! fixed it
