overheating EA82 radiator stuffed i think

Post by Milla » Wed Sep 19, 2007 11:38 pm

sounds like i have a similar prob to another overheating EA82,
i thought my temp was a bit high due to a constant leak of fluid so i decided to put some of that 'Stop leak' stuff in the radiator.

WELL it stopped the leak, and the flow of coolant throughout the radiator.

NOW after about 5min drivin my temp gauge sits just below the red line, however ...if i flatten the pedal, the temp seems to drop, temporarily, until i set to cruise again.

off to exmouth on satdy or sundy and need this problem fixed!!!!!!

what r my options? cud this be the head gasket? wud a new or recon'd radiator be the better choice for money value.

PS. got the radius rod fixed and exhaust system put in, tires on tomorra. was all good till this problem.

if u havent done it already id be goin for Rad Service, new Thermostat and Cap and flush it out.

hmmm depedns how much u got to spend :p

rad (new) maybe like 350 to 400 rough price (aint sure) pump culd be like 100 to 150 (rough) thermostat like 30 i guess coolant depends where u get it etc add liek antoher 50 roughly for distilled water and a bottle of premix stuff.

for some1 to do it all maybe like add 200 lol

so with my very rough prices all up adds up to around $830 lol
u culd probly get away with doin just like a new rad or something but i dont liek chancing crap liek that to much to go wrong later

Distilled water is completely necessary
u cant use tap water in cooling system completely screws em over and ull end up with more problems than u started with. (ofcourse not a prolbem over east apparently they dont haev the crap in the water we do)

Prices are high coz i liek doin things thhat way lol..better to overestimate than underestimate i say

just thinking of this
who doen ur radiator if u got it cleaned etc then whoever did it usually shuld pressure test it to find any leaks and if they do they shuld of fixed it. Lseries rads are metal aretn they (tanks) if so easily get it welded or the likes to stop it

but puttin Stop Leak wont affect the cooling system only make it better if its leaking. (only use em at work for headgaskets dont usually for rad leaks)

maybe just a rerodding of your radiator is needed- might pay to get it checked out by a rad specialist.

if you can find a little tube of Silver Seal (blue cardboard tube about 20mm dia 80mm long) at say Autopro. It has little powdered flakes of stuff to seal radiator leaks. Have used it many times for emergency situations to buy time. My brother still has it in from a year ago ! STICK ONE in the glovebox for next rad leak.
