Hi guys, i have a 1992 brumby here on my farm which has a real surging problem when the temp gauge gets to half or just over.It runs fine in any gear and any load until i use it long enough to get the temp gauge over half way. Every time the gauge gets to half or just over it surges its head off in the lower rev range unless you rev the ring out of it and keep it reving. If i turn it off and walk away and leave it to cool down and then come back everything will be fine again until the temp goes back up. i have had this ute for about 2 years and it had the problem when i got it. Has had plugs leads & cap and timing is ok. float level on carby is fine, I have driven it with the air cleaner removed, Just to try it out, the choke comes off fine, the idle stop solenoid in the carby is working fine, there is 12 volts at the coil has had both fuel filters replaced and fuel lines blown out no rust in them. carby has been opened up and blown out. I have run cold water over both the coil and dizzy to remove the heat from them in case there was a temperature related isue with either of them.none of this has made any difference. Is there anything anyone else can think of cause this is really getting annoying. Most times i dont use it long enough for the problem to show but when i do it gets extremely frustrating. Anybody got a wiring diagram for one of these. Thanks for reading.

can we have a better defintion of surge? jerks and dies and picks up again at lower revs ? hows it just at idle no foot on acc pedal ? how is inside the coil plug in tower ? did you plug a new coil HT lead into a corroded coil tower ?
fuel quality ? car no used much with no much fuel in tank generate moisture in tank - moisture build up?

Surging, yes jerks and dies and picks back up againatlower revs. Runs fine at idle only problem when under load. No coil tower is fine, parks in shed fuel is fine live in mallee very hot and dry not moisture in anything.

How about if the power piston is sticking / binding once the carb gets hot.
The alloy of the air horn will tighten up it's bore for the piston, especially if it's already a little gummy. Seen this countless times.
Sounds like a lean condition, hook up a vacuum gauge and note the vacuum gauge reading at the start of the surge.

If its been happening since he got the car and that was two years ago, I'd doubt that its water in the fuel - unless the choice of fuel supplier is the problem...
How many Km on this brumby? It could need a carbie re-build. By the sounds of it theres something to do with the temp of the engine and the fuel delivery/spark. How long since your plugs were changed? and are they a hi-temp application.
Why does your car get so hot?
