Burning Smell and Poor Clutch Feel

Post by Levi_Wrx » Fri Sep 26, 2008 12:55 am

gday fellas,
my last post was about replacing a clutch,

i found a mechanic who replaced the clutch and replaced the brake rotors.

heres a list of what he did.

replaced brake rotors,
machined flywheel,
replaced clutch assembly,
replaced engine rear main seal.

now the clutch feels odd, as in it has about 5cm push before you feel the clutch at all. and about 1cm friction point and a further 5 or so cm of leftover "nothing" where you cant feel anything.

also when taking off in 1st or reverse, on the friction point it gets a massive shudder which rattles the car, the only way to overcome this is to rev it past about 2grand "burning the clutch" until there is enough forward momentum.

also between gear changing the clutch seems to grip instantly when let out and there is an audible "squeak" sound as it grips.

the clutch aside, i have another problem.

after driving for any amount of distance there is a strong smell coming from somewhere, smells like burning oil/ clutch burn. oil it seems is seeping out of the rear main seal and burning on the exhaust. and is it possible that the clutch burning smell is from mismatched plates?

i cant seem to detect any slipping.

ALSO after an extended period of driving thin white smoke billows out of the hood.

its a big dilemma haha.

any ideas what the problems are? could be?

also if anyone (im sure someone) has had similar experiences. what was the problem?

thankyou for taking the time to read this thread! thanks alot guys!!

regards, willo

P.S also the clutch installed was OEM, not aftermarket.
